Introducing the Clay Society

by Scy, on Jul 28, 2021 11:00:30 AM

If you are active on social media and follow the PCU social media channels, you might have come across a few posts about the Clay Society! You may be wondering what it is exactly... well, keep reading to learn about all about it and how you can join!

The Clay Society was created in April 2021 by Celina, a ceramics fanatic, and student from the Master's in Fine Art programme at PCU. After the pandemic, she felt that it was time to bring people together and reconnect with each other through art.

Today, the society has 15 active members, 11 of which are PCU students from across all Schools and programmes. They come together once a week at Terra Ceramics studio, very close to Namesti Miru and PCU’s main campus, Polska. The members learn hand-built and pottery wheel techniques and they can keep their pieces. At the end of each month, a member will have produced around 3 pieces.

"The Clay society has been really incredible, not only did it give me a reason to socialize a bit and leave the house, but it was also very therapeutic! I never did anything with clay before, so this was the perfect opportunity."
Elena Arshakyan, Graphic Design student at PCU.

Clay Society Exhibition

In addition to the meet-ups, the Clay Society hosted an exhibition and open day event on Friday, the 18th of June. About 30 people joined and enjoyed live music by Master’s Fine Art student Irene Antonez while checking out 28 exhibited ceramic pieces. Guests could even try the pottery wheel for themselves!

"This society has taught me a lot about clay: general rules, different techniques - there is even some chemistry behind all of this! I really enjoyed each lesson very much. The teachers made sure to explain everything in a simple way and questions were always welcomed. I made many different pieces and actually plan to work more with clay in the future."
Beyza Nur Inanmis, Graphic Design student at PCU.
