Students from the BA (Hons) Communications and Media Studies took part in the Model United Nations conference in Prague 2017; Brittney Pilarcik and Selina Nikijuluw participated in the press team who produced the video:
Impressions from Brittney and Selina:
We were responsible for attending sessions from all seven committees which ranged from topics on Nuclear Energy, to Violence in Sudan, to Women’s Rights. The committee sessions began on Monday February 5 and lasted until the evening of February 9th. The welcome party met on Sunday at the historic Cafe Louvre where we were given the opportunity to meet a diversity of people. As the only members of the press team, we were responsible for writing articles, participating in several of the sessions, taking pictures, and filming delegates, for articles and the upcoming promotional video that we have made.
Our task was to post the articles about the conference on the site of the MUN Prague. In order to do this, we attended the sessions where delegates had two topics to accomplish for their final ‘working paper.’ Working as PR was a new experience for the two of us, but thanks to the teachers at Prague College we felt confident in applying for this position. We used our knowledge from Peppur Chamber’s class to write articles, and interview delegates. We also felt confident in making a promotional video thanks to our program leader Masa and Cazim who taught us the fundamental basics of filming and editing.
We are extremely proud of our accomplishment working for the PR team with MUN Prague and hope to further our studies in order to apply to more challenging positions in the future. Albeit, this one held a challenge of its own.
Now that we had experienced being part of the organization, Selina would love to become a delegate and Brittney would like to work as PR in future conferences held around the world. The Model United Nations conference is highly recommended to attend as this prepares students for their future career. Students get to apply skills and their ‘superpower’ as we would call it because everyone contributes with their special skill to the conference.
