This year the 14th ESS took place from 16 to 26 July at Prague College, with the title “Europe in Motion”. The main focus and themes were on the the challenges currently changing the dynamics of European integration.

During the past several years Prague College has welcomed students from all over the world for the European Summer School (ESS) organized by the EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy, in co-operation with Prague College School of Business, Charles University Faculty of Social Sciences and under the auspices of the European Commission Representation in the Czech Republic.

In particular, as a consequences of the debt crisis, changes in the demographic structure such as the trend of ageing population, accompanied by the current migration wave, the security situation and concerns amongst member states.

The seminars highlighted key challenges and open questions for the EU moving towards a more (or less) integrated community. The academic programme was organized around three delivery blocks including several modules, focusing on the EU in the global environment, its internal political development and the different economic aspects of the integration among state members. Students had a chance to participate in a number of seminars and workshops that allowed them to get a broader overview of current economic, political and regulatory environment inside of the EU (for more detail please refer to the schedule).

Prague College School of Business lecturers Stefano Cavagnetto and Bruce Gahir  were invited to give a series of lectures that took place on 22 July and covered such important issues as: change in the EU demographics, the migration crisis, economic consequences and related concerns over solidarity for EU community. In the light of recent events, we find these topics as particularly crucial for open discussion. To read more about the talks and their content please see the CRIS blog.
