Particular attention has to be paid on use of technology in the classroom environment as it often leads to cognitive losses involved into computer multitasking.
This seminar will explore some of the basic brain functions which are involved in the learning process. More specifically, we will illustrate why reading on paper is more effective than reading from a screen, why the pen is mightier than the keyboard and the cognitive losses involved in computer multitasking. In today's classroom the computer has become the primary equipment and study tool for most students. However, the use of this powerful device should be used with caution and awareness. In fact, it has been shown that using the computer during class time tends to be more damaging than beneficial to the learning process. Not only is typing notes on the computer less effective than hand writing them when it comes to understanding and applying the meaning of the information, but it is also shown that the various non-academic apps provide an irresistible and addictive distraction.
