by Alex Went, on Feb 13, 2017 1:00:00 PM

On 9 December 2016 students from the BA (Hons) Communication Media Studies programme visited Czech Television. During their visit students met with renowned editors and journalists who have made a remarkable impact on Czech media.

Students met with Milan Fridrich, Programme Director of Czech Television, and Michal Kubal, Head of the CTV foreign news desk. They were given the opportunity to ask questions about programme, editorial politics, and the structure of the company as well as meeting journalists working in the field. Katerina Prochazkova, Foreign news reporter at Czech TV was our guide on this fascinating tour. They also had the chance to meet with young journalist Daniel Stach during the production of the TV show 'Věda 24'.

As a part of the visit, students were told about Czech Television's internship programme, introduced by Eva Slámová, Head of the programme 'CT Start'. The whole visit was organized with the support of Dominika Jiříková, a specialist from the Human Resources Department.

Impressions from one of our students, Nino Aphakidze:

quote-marks.pngBefore the visit to Czech TV I had some preconceptions about the trip, as I am not a very big fan of TV and don’t even remember the last time I watched it! However the trip pleasantly surprised me. It turned out to be very exciting and informative. We had a chance to meet some influential journalists and ask them questions. All of them were very considerate of us and provided us with very useful information.

For me the most exciting part was, when we entered the studio to see how programmes are recorded there. We saw every detail of how the studio process, starting from camera set-ups and ending with the observation of the way TV presenters and editor communicate with each other.

We were also introduced to Czech TV's history, Czech TV Internship Programs and the Czech TV foreign news department. After the trip I felt that I had learnt a lot about the television and its working atmosphere.
