From Helbus to Here

by Alex Went, on 27 February 2015 12:12:59 CET

This semester, we welcomed four new Business students from Finland. They are all graduates of Helbus Business School who have joined Prague College to complete their BA (Hons) in International Management.

Jenni Jarvenpaa, Antti Koski, Antero Joly and Ville Hannikainen all studied in the same class at the private college in Helsinki. They are now fully immersed in the School of Business and enjoying the experience of living in a new European city and studying with a new group of people in the BA (Hons) International Management programme

Welcome everyone, to Prague College. Can you tell us a little about Helbus?

’Sure. It stands for Helsinki Business School. It’s quite new, and like Prague College is a private institution, quite a rare thing in Finland, where the majority of education is state-funded. We all graduated last year with HNDs in Business, writing projects on a wide range of topics, including Innovation and Creativity Management, Marketing and Promotion in Helsinki, Campaigns and Discount Sales in Clothing, and a study of Finnish and Swedish pharmacies.’

Do you consider the move to Prague an unusual one?

‘Well, in a way: about 75% of students at Helbus who progress to the BA go to London, and the rest to places like Barcelona,’ explains Antero, whose ambition is to enter the world of investment management. ’But we like it here,’ adds Ville, who would like to extend his studies with a Masters, either here or back home in Helsinki: ‘It’s cheap, and of course the beer is an important factor!  The school year in Finland ended in December, and the fact that Prague College offers a February start means that we were able to make the transition smoothly’

What have you gained from being at Prague College so far?

‘We’re all in the same class,’ says Ville, ‘and we enjoy the charismatic lessons of our teachers. The fact that we are in a group helps.’ Jenni agrees: ‘Probably the most important area has been the improvement of our writing and presentation skills.’ And just like at Helbus,’ adds Antti, ‘all the teaching is in English, so that’s an obvious advantage. For Antero, making new friends has not been a problem ‘I have lots of new acquaintances, from here but also from other universities in Prague’

We wish you the very best for your current and future studies - let us know how you get on!
