Stefano Cavagnetto, the Head of School of Business and Computing, delivered a lecture entitled 'Gift from the Past: Medieval scripts to Roman Typefaces' that discussed the evolution of different scripts and their influence on modern typography.
Kate Sill, a UK-based graphic designer delivered a lecture entitled '26', which examined how the 26 shapes that make up the Roman alphabet possess such transformative qualities.
Iva Knobloch, an art and design historian, gave a lecture on Ladislav Sutnar, entitled 'Typography and Information Flow'. Iva has curated a travelling exhibition on Ladislav Sutnar and published three books of his work. In collaboration with Petr Knobloch and Tomas Celizna she has also prepared the website www.sutnar.cz.
Mark Noad, a designer with 25 years experience working for some of the biggest names in the industry, spoke about one of his own projects in the talk 'Getting from A to Z: Type, Travel, and the Tube Map'. He discussed his redesign of the London Underground map that received recent media coverage and generated a heated debate in the design world and beyond.
