TRIAD – Game Demo designed by Prague College students

by admin, on 05 September 2012 12:25:52 CEST

Three students of the BSc (Hons) Computing and BA (Hons) Fine Art and Experimental Media programmes, Gerhard Breytenbach, Lukas Hrouda and David Prouza, have designed an interactive computer game called TRIAD as a part of the Interactive Media Design and Authoring module at Prague College.

The concept of the game was the work of Gerhard Breytenbach, a BSc computing student who was interviewed by Prague College about the nature and implementation of the project.

What led you to the idea of creating a computer game?

I have always been an avid gamer. I really enjoy playing different computer games and exploring various game styles. What is special about this game is the fact that you can combine various game styles including shooting, strategy and time-based games so everyone can find in this game what they are looking for. I also felt that active landscaping was missing from current computer games. I wanted to explore this idea and introduce it in TRIAD.

What is the game about?

The avatar of the player gains progressive levels as he or she progresses through the game. The entire environment of the game reflects what you choose to do in the game. The story behind the game is that in the near future the ongoing changes to the environment on planet Earth will reach drastic catastrophic proportions, and the only way to save it is to find three pieces of technology (cold hydrogen fusion, genetic engineering and cybernetic neural interfaces). The fusion process requires highly compressed hydrogen that can only be found in the atmosphere of Jupiter. TRIAD is an online multiplayer game that draws on different niches in the market. After learning the basics of the game and reaching higher player levels, you can advance and play against other players and create a real-time strategy. There is definitely a learning curve to this game. The objective of the game is to build a network around the planet and control it.

How was the project created?

Well, the idea took me about two hours, but then to create the project demo and make it work took us about two months of development work. Lukas did a fantastic job in incorporating 3D effects and David Prouza made sure that the project was promoted and created; you can see the video which combines 2D graphics (tiles, game menu), animation (video intro, menu animation), green screen shooting, keying, post production and sound effects.
