Professional IT Diplomas

Our Professional Diploma programmes with a 9 to 18 month duration, introduce you to concepts and skills that can be directly applied into a professional context. They are designed for people who already have some relevant work experience and wish to strengthen their skills in a particular area. For instance, those who have followed a different academic path and now wish to develop their skills in IT and Computing, or for those who have left work but are looking to enhance their skills without committing to a degree programme.

The Professional Diploma programmes consist of a tailored selection of modules from our BSc (Hons) Computing and MSc Computing programmes, with the aim to fast-track development in your chosen specialisation. The specialisations offered may change yearly based on current industry needs and availability of places in the modules.

For the 2023/24 academic year the following programmes are offered:

  • Professional Diploma in Multimedia and Game Creation
  • Specialist Professional Diploma in Java Programming
  • Advanced Specialist Professional Diploma in Wireless and Cybersecurity

Your Programme Leader

Veronika Douchova is Head of the School of Media & IT and Programme Leader for the Professional Diploma programmes. Veronika studied Mathematics and Geometry at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, and Logic at the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy, both at Charles University. After gaining her MSc. in Mathematics, she continued in graduate studies in Applied Mathematics. Currently, she is finishing her PhD in Cognitive Science.


Professional Diploma in Multimedia and Game Creation

18-month Diploma, 3 semesters*
September start only
Equivalent to 80 UK credits

This diploma will teach you the necessary skills to start your career as a game or multimedia developer. You will learn how to design web applications and interactive games, learn and design 3D modelling and 3D space and object forms. The programme also teaches you the coding demands required to create gaming environments, interactive storytelling or 3D applications for different platforms such as desktop, web, virtual reality, augmented reality and mobiles. Previous knowledge of programming fundamentals is required. Classes are offered during the day only, making this programme suitable for professionals with a flexible schedule or students looking to further develop their skills in this area.

    *Note you pay for two semesters only due to the credit split across the programme

Specialist Professional Diploma in Java Programming

1-year Diploma, 2 semesters
February start only
Equivalent to 80 UK credits

This professional diploma offers candidates with programming knowledge the opportunity to shift to Java by extending their knowledge of algorithms and computational complexity. Previous knowledge and experience with at least one programming language (any kind) is required. Classes are typically offered during the day, making this programme suitable for professionals or students with a flexible schedule.

Advanced Specialist Professional Diploma in Wireless and Cybersecurity

9-month Diploma, 2 semesters
September start only
Equivalent to 60 UK credits

This programme is for those who have previous knowledge on the essentials of networking infrastructure and are familiar with networking administration, as it provides a deeper knowledge focused on security, cybersecurity and information systems. Applicants should also have a basic knowledge of programming principles, essential networking design and implementation of IP networks and essential security enforcement for IP networks to be eligible for this programme. Classes typically run in the evening making this programme suitable for working professionals.
