Student Support & Wellbeing

PCU treats students' health and wellbeing as a high priority and are delighted to offer a programme of activities that enrich the body, mind and soul, along with individual support and advice.

Yoga

In the academic year 2022/2023, PCU students were welcome to join weekly yoga sessions with our qualified yoga instructor Lucie. We plan to continue with Yoga classes also in the upcoming academic year.  Stay tuned for updates!

Mindfulness & Meditation

mindfulness-with-alice-4

How do we find even a moment of peace in busy, challenging times full of distraction?
How do we experience stability and clarity even though we may have so many intense emotions and so much mental confusion?
How do we learn to work with our mind instead of being just at its mercy?

In the West, meditation has moved from the fringe into a mainstream activity with Universities around the world recommending its practice. We offer our students sessions with a qualified meditation instructor to help reduce stress, improve concentration and to experience an overall sense of wellbeing. If you are interested, please email Student Services for more information.

Health

Student Services can provide information to students on healthcare within the city. We help students find dental, medical, and psychological support when needed.

Psychological Counselling

PCU offers students psychological counselling free of charge. It is provided by City Practice, an independent multi-lingual counselling centre. City Practice is a recognized service provider for global health insurance organizations.

City Practice provides holistic mental health support for those students who may feel they require it in order to achieve their academic and personal goals. The service is confidential with all enquiries and client communication treated in absolute confidence. No personal information is ever disclosed to others without consent unless City Practice is required to do so by law.

Examples of commonly discussed issues are:

  1. academic and university life: exam stress, presentation anxiety, study skills, adjustment to university life, culture shock, time/stress management
  2. (mental) health issues - depression, anxiety, eating disorders, sleeping problems, drug/alcohol problems, dealing with chronic illness
  3. inter-personal or partnership difficulties
  4. other – grief, loneliness, low self-esteem, discrimination, traumatic experience

Free sessions are limited to 4 sessions per student, per semester. If more are needed, additional sessions can be offered based on capacity.
