PCU in the Community
Living in Prague is a two-way experience. The city offers so much to our university community. Equally, staff and students give back much to the world beyond the university campus. In this way PCU fulfils its responsibility to engage with organizations, to further enrich the tapestry of Prague’s cultural and educational activity, and to benefit its community.
Many students choose to be involved with community events and projects, either as part of their studies or independently. Regardless of whether our students are Czech natives, or come to study from abroad for one semester, everyone is encouraged to learn more about the city and community we are based in.
Prague Fringe Festival
PCU has been a long-term supporter of the Prague Fringe Festival, which despite its small size is one of the jewels in the world-wide Fringe Alliance. During the festival’s 20 year history, our students have written and produced plays, and one of our Graphic Design alumni, Alina Shupikova, is responsible for designing the Fringe identity and branding.
During the global pandemic Creative Media Production students were also involved in livestream broadcasts of the festival globally, and also produced a promotional video.
Milovice Children's Home
PCU has established a strong relationship with Detske Centrum Milovice which provides a home for children aged 6 months to 5 years old. and supports their various activities and projects. PCU staff, students, and lecturers visit the centre on a regular basis and collect donations for the children. Money raised through fundraising and donations has gone to support holidays in the Czech Mountains for the children, equipment for the centre and Christmas gifts.
Mexico Prague Iberoamerican Film Festival
MPIFF is an international film festival based in Prague, curating and showcasing the best films from Latin America (particularly Mexico), Spain and Portugal. In the festival’s third year, PCU has joined as a main sponsor; and for the official launch, students from our Creative Media Production programme organised equipment and provided key technical skills to support a livestream broadcast to an international audience. In September 2021 a student team managed and supported the three-day festival, capturing key moments on camera. This gives students the opportunity to work with professionals and as part a team that creates and produces a festival to an international audience.
