This programme explores emerging developments in finance, accounting and fintech, including Blockchain, Data Analytics, and Robotic Process Automation. The highly practical syllabus has students working on real-life projects and case studies, providing them with the experience and skills to make strategic decisions in a business environment.
Year 1 modules are shared with students from the BA (Hons) International Management programme. This means at the end of your first year of study you can choose to continue with the Finance and Accountancy specialisation, or switch to the management pathway.
"When I started I didn’t have a specific field in mind, but my interest steered quickly to financial crime. This was a field that I didn't know a lot about, but it piqued my interest and got me excited and due to the great teaching and expert lecturers I focused on cryptocurrencies for my dissertation. The lecturers' support at PCU is significant. Their knowledge, background and encouragement has been great. With smaller class sizes they have been able to offer personal teaching, support and guidance throughout which has meant a lot to me."
Hulda Niinisto, BA (Hons) International Finance and Business Accounting graduate
The programme can be taken either full-time or in distance learning format.
Full-time students in the first and second years of the programme will have 12 hours of lessons per week. In the third year, students will have 6 hours of lessons per week, along with weekend sessions. This structure allows students in their final year to engage in work or internships, as they are encouraged to do so.
In general, students are advised to double this time for self-study and for working on class assignments. In addition, a further 2 to 3 hours per week may be required for attending events and workshops on campus.
Dr Bruce Gahir is Associate Dean of the School of Business and programme leader for International Finance and Business Accounting. He pursues his own academic interests in questions of financial management and accounting, business ethics, and the management of global economic operations. Bruce also manages the CIMA and ACCA programmes, and acts as an adviser in the field of financial services. Bruce has Doctorate (DBA) with Teesside University and studied theoretical physics (BSc and MSc) at University College London, and philosophy (MA) at Birkbeck College. Before his career in academics, Bruce worked in multinational corporations and banks in London.
The BA (Hons) in International Finance and Business Accounting culminates in a challenging, self-defined project that taps into students’ strengths, interests and experiences.
The School of Business is excited to announce their Advanced University Partnership with CIMA and the launch of the CGMA Finance Leadership Digital Programme, a self-paced, self-directed online learning platform that builds critical financial competencies across a broad set of technical, business, digital, people and leadership skills.
PCU's network of local and international employers ensures that students are constantly informed about exciting opportunities that come their way, not just limited to the annual career fair.
One such example is Anastasiia, a first year student who has an internship with local firm Lucca Prague.
"The correlation between my studies and my job have been immensely helpful. Many of the tasks I am assigned at my internship I have already covered in class."
"My lecturers were just fantastic and continue to be fantastic as I pursue my Master’s at PCU. The course material was well structured and geared for deep learning and the projects so practical. The knowledge I gained really helped me to understand how businesses work and how decision making is directly related to finance and accounting. Furthermore, with CIMA added to my degree a whole new world of information opened up to me. Towards the end of my Bachelor's I was privileged to be accepted into the Global Finance Rotation Program at SAP and now work across many different departments which allows me to further explore my passion for finance."
