George Allen, MFA

Dean of School of Art & Design

In addition to being Dean, George’s teaching portfolio cuts through different programmes and degree levels. These include Photoshop courses for Foundation students, seminar classes for first year Fine Art students, thesis writing and dissertation for final year Fine Art and Graphic Design students, and live projects, competition work, and degree projects, for 2nd and 3rd year Graphic Design students.

George has recently focused on photographic typologies that explore cultural, historical, and architectural facets of life in Prague. In his professional capacity he is fascinated by the multitude of approaches to studio based higher education curriculum in art and design. He is interested in the disruption the pandemic has caused to in person teaching and the innovative ways different institutions have responded.

George previously taught as an adjunct professor at Virginia Commonwealth University in the Photography and Design departments and also at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College in their Photography Department. He has also worked extensively in both the photography and the film industries.

George received his Masters of Fine Arts degree in Photography in 2004 from the Graduate School at Virginia Commonwealth University. George also studied European History and Studio Art with a concentration in photography at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, where he received his Bachelor of Arts.
