Peter is an artist and photographer, with a BA in Photographic Arts from the University of Westminster and an MA from the Royal College of Art in London. Peter teaches Curating Exhibitions and Events to Fine Art students.
His long-term autobiographical work explores the subjects of loss, trauma, and history. Watkins’s practice meditates on the subjects of archiving and remembering, exploring how personal histories can be preserved or lost through processes of memorialisation.
Peter has exhibited internationally, most notably with his project The Unforgetting, and more recently with his new body of work, Mother Tongue, shown for the first time at Galerie NoD in Prague in 2022. He is also a regular guest speaker at several UK Universities.
Essays and interviews about Peter have been featured in The Guardian, Photoworks Magazine, Paper Journal, The British Journal of Photography, among others. In 2018 he won the Guernsey International Photography Award, and in 2019 his book, The Unforgetting, won the Skinnerboox Book Award, and was launched on the opening night of Paris Photo, 2019. His work is held in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, and Museum Winterthur in Switzerland.
