Doc. Zdeněk Starý, CSc. Ph.D.

Zdeněk is Rector of Prague City University, responsible for the quality and content of Czech accreditation and programmes. He also serves as the Dean of the School of Education.

Zdeněk chaired the Department of General Linguistics at Charles University and served two terms in Charles University Senate. He also pursues his own professional and educational interests in general linguistics. Zdeněk teaches courses in general linguistics focusing namely on language structure and issue of cognitive linguistics  (undergraduate and graduate level) and tutors PhD linguistics students. Zdeněk holds a CSc. degree in General Linguistics (Charles University) and MA degrees in Czech Studies, Aesthetics and Mathematics (Charles University). He is an Associate Professor in General Linguistics.

He has been a visiting Associate Professor with the University of Virginia and held a Senior Fulbright Scholarship in the US and a Rockefeller Foundation Fellowship in Bellagio, Italy. Zdeněk’s research tackles issues of language understanding, interlingual interface and linguistics methodology.
Na Prague City University působí jako rektor Prague City Vysoké Školy, která je akreditována v České republice, a zároveň jako děkan Pedagogické fakulty (School of Education).

Zdeněk Starý vedl na Univerzitě Karlově katedru obecné lingvistiky a dvě funkční období působil jako člen senátu Univerzity Karlovy. Vyučuje kurzy obecné lingvistiky zaměřené zejména na strukturu jazyka a problematiku kognitivní lingvistiky (bakalářské i magisterské studium) dále vede doktorandy lingvistiky. Zdeněk Starý je držitelem titulu CSc. v oboru obecná lingvistika (Univerzita Karlova) a magisterských titulů v oborech bohemistika, estetika a matematika (Univerzita Karlova). Je docentem v oboru obecná lingvistika.

Působil jako hostující docent na University of Virginia a byl držitelem seniorského Fulbrightova stipendia v USA a stipendia Rockefellerovy nadace v italském Bellagiu.
Ve svém výzkumu se zabývá otázkami jazykového porozumění, mezijazykového rozhraní a metodologie lingvistiky.
