Foundation Diploma in Business

The Foundation Diploma is designed to develop skills and qualifications in areas of business that match your ambitions and talent. It is an ideal preparation for future studies at Bachelor’s level, even if you do not yet meet the standard entry requirements for university. Over the course of one year, you'll be introduced to a wide range of topics, including management skills, marketing, HR, finance, and event management. Content is delivered in an engaging, interactive way, and you can be sure of continuous tutorial support, including assistance with academic writing. The programme gives you the choice to study in person in Prague, or to join as a distance learner and follow live lessons, receive recordings, and access resources via the Digital Campus. You will meet other students studying from their home countries as well as in Prague.

Meet the Programme Leader:
Marek Kocák, MSc
Marek holds a Bachelor’s in International Business Management and a Master’s in International Management from Teesside University, along with a Master’s in Philosophy (with distinction) from Birkbeck, University of London. With expertise in business ethics and law, marketing, branding, business strategy, research methods, project management, and supply chain management, Marek focuses on advancing brand success and organisational growth through strategic insights and targeted initiatives. He is dedicated to identifying emerging market opportunities, crafting cohesive brand strategies, and aligning organisational objectives with both brand identity and ethical frameworks.
Entry Requirements
① A Czech high school diploma or equivalent education from other countries, assessed individually. At least two AS-level passes, or one A-level pass or LCCIEB equivalent, or International Baccalaureate Diploma or Certificate.
Students who have been unable to complete their High School due to mitigating circumstances or do not have the required qualifications or grades to enter directly to the Bachelor’s degree level should contact our admissions team to confirm their eligibility to apply for this programme based on their educational background.
② Confirmation of English level upon entry, which could be one of the certificates listed:
IELTS with a score of at least 5.0; TOEFL iBT with a score of at least 45. Duolingo and Cambridge certificates of English are also accepted with equivalent scores. Applicants can also sit the Versant language exam at PCU to assess their English level. Other equivalent English assessment subject to PCU approval.
③ A Letter of Motivation (300 words).
For all programmes at Prague City University there is a final interview between the applicant and the Programme Leader before the final decision on admission is made.
Project & Studies
Foundation students have successfully worked with the Czech Circular Economy initiative to complete an integrated project together with INCIEN. Students worked in project groups and were responsible for carrying out a study assessing the marketing efforts of L’Oreal. In their assessment they also evaluated their current efforts transitioning into a circular economy, and provided recommendations on what else they could do in order to become active participants in the circular economy.
Schedule
Full-time
Full-time students can expect to attend daily classes, with 16 hours per week in class, plus additional workshops and guest lectures. Further independent learning and group work is expected.
Online Study Format
Distance learning is for students who are located outside of Prague and the Czech Republic. Classes are delivered live and take a participatory format, with you making active contributions during classes. All recorded classes are sent to distance learning students, allowing you to review class content and study at times that are suitable to your schedule and time zone.

Evet Yaqoob successfully completed her Foundation Diploma in Business and graduated from BA (Hons) International Finance and Business Accounting degree and CGMA Finance Leadership programme to further enhance her professional accounting qualification.
Joan Nicolas Garcia successfully completed his Foundation Diploma in Business in 2019 and is now in the BA (Hons) International Management programme.
Arwa Zahran successfully completed her Foundation Diploma in Business qualification at Prague City University and is now in her final year of BA (Hons) International Finance and Business Accounting programme, she will continue to earn her professional accounting CGMA qualification after completing her Bachelor's degree.
Juan Jose Navarro Trujillo completed the Foundation Diploma in Business programme from Dubai and then moved to Prague to start his BA (Hons) International Finance and Business Accounting programme and CGMA qualification and has sucesfully graduated in 2024.

Worldwide, Foundation Diplomas are growing in popularity, with many universities encouraging students to complete a foundation year before committing to a Bachelor’s programme.
