Agora Magazine Issue 3 ‘Cuisine’

by Larissa Petryca, on 09 December 2021 10:30:33 CET

The autumn issue returns in full swing with a 64 page spread dedicated to ‘Cuisine’. You can find the issue on the website and directly here.

Whats different about our magazine?

What sets AGORA apart from the many online magazines that blossomed during the depths of the pandemic, is its focus on a particular theme for each issue. So far there has been ‘(Dis)Connection’, ‘Language’, and now ‘Cuisine’.

Issue 3, Cuisine

‘Cuisine’ means a style or method of cooking - gathering ingredients and merging them to create something tantalising, memorable and replicable - much like AGORA’s ability to create something out of Zoom meetings, Slack conversations and Whatsapp chats.

This issue gave our international ingredients (our artists, illustrators and designers) the opportunity to look at kitchen design, restaurant architecture, specific family recipes, lost traditions as well as the effect of agriculture on our daily consumption. Together we created a smorgasbord of delicacies, ripe for discussion, that highlights AGORA’s global network and the throng of ambitiously hungry members of our community, willing to research, explore and share everything that they learn.

Supporting creativity and expression

The process of creating a quarterly magazine that traverses the globe is no easy feat; not only do time zones, work and study schedules have to be met, but also a commitment to a voluntary creative cause which demands dedication and discipline - skills that are vital in any professional capacity.

From initial meetings to the final editorial design, each member merges their passion and skill to create something outstanding. As Mirna remarks, ‘It’s a meticulous process, but once you see the end result and how everyone's work comes together, you can't help but feel an amazing sense of fulfillment and appreciation.’ It’s a testament to the people who join AGORA that we create something we are all so proud of. We provide a safe space for experimentation, encouraging everyone to take a risk and try something new.

Kateřina describes her first foray into AGORA, ‘I really liked the fact that it enables its members to share their projects and articles on topics they are passionate about. When you are a young designer like me you appreciate any chance for exposure to your work.’ She adds that ’I can be quite experimental and bold with my layouts. I wouldn’t be able to do that in a magazine that has a more conservative visual identity.’

Another contributor Tamta adds, ‘I'm glad to have contributed to the third issue of Agora, selfishly, because I think it helped me take a little step towards being a better designer, which is my goal in life,’ we exist to expand experiences and portfolios.

AGORA wouldn’t be possible without creators. It feels ill-advised to simply call us ‘content creators’ because the magazine does not exist without each member, each star in our constellation - we’re not hierarchical, everyone brings their skills, talent, drive and passion to the table.
