In addition to the growth of our University, we’ve also begun expanding our Industry Network. The latest member is Ecoten Urban Comfort. Their efforts aim to make a positive impact on the current climate situation. They do this through better urban planning and development projects.
Helping Cities
ECOTEN Urban Comfort is dedicated to helping cities reduce their vulnerability to climate change impacts such as extreme heat events. They employ a technical data-driven approach adapted from the vulnerability framework which has been proposed by the 4th Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) to improve people’s quality of life.
3-Step Action
Ecoten accompanies public and private urban actors in the construction of a more resilient, cooler, more breathable city through a 3-step action:
→ 1. DIAGNOSIS of vulnerability to heat events combining several datasets: thermal, socio-demographic, environmental, etc.
→ 2. RECOMMENDATIONS for urban planning to cool the environment according to the morphology of the studied area.
→ 3. MICROCLIMATIC SIMULATIONS to evaluate the climatic impact of different urban designs, and be able to compare them in order to select those with the most satisfactory resilience characteristics.
The singularity of Ecoten’s approach has given them the opportunity to deliver projects on measuring and mapping the heat vulnerability for the Municipality of Vienna, Austria and Prague, Czechia, and also for a Las Vegas-based company called Fontis Technologies LLC.
