In solidarity with universities in the Czech Republic students and lecturers occupied Prague City University and joined a nation-wide climate strike action. The goal of occupying universities by academics and students in the Czech Republic was to draw attention to problems of the present.
In the Czech Republic, November 17th is for reminiscing about the events of the Velvet Revolution and to celebrate victories of freedom and democracy. However, in the present day, students find it challenging to simply pay homage to the past.
So on the 15th of November students occupied PCU and settled in, forming a reading group, playing video games where players experienced an ecological environment in a non human form, shared plant-based snacks and organized creative plenary sessions to discuss ways to transform the state and equalise society.
The group had an open discussion on media theorist James Bridle’s thoughts on the impact of climate and crafted a visually attractive manifesto with student’s points of action to help create a more sustainable university. The first step would be to install separated recycle bins all over the campuses. This particular demand, and others, will be forwarded to management.
Stand up for real climate action!
