Howden is an international manufacturer of industrial machinery. In 2013 the company acquired CKD Kompresory, a leading supplier of multi-stage centrifugal compressors to the oil and gas, petrochemical, power and steel industries based in Prague. Shortly afterwards, Howden approached Prague College School of Art & Design with a view to setting up a project which would commemorate the heritage, history and tradition of these two highly successful companies and their vast site in Prague-Vysocany.
The first part of the project is all about engaging our students in an artistic response to this brief. It is envisaged that ultimately the partnership with the college will result in a collection of static or dynamic work which can be displayed both at the college and at the Howden/CKD site. The visit was part of an intensive project for two second year groups as part of their 'Ideas in Context' module.
