Introducing Prague College Bishop's Court

by Alex Went, on 21 May 2014 09:58:20 CEST

In one of the biggest strategic moves since its foundation in 2004, Prague College is opening Bishop's Court, a new art and graphic design facility in the city centre

Our new space in Prague 1 will house art and design studios, and workspace and classrooms for our 3rd year degree students in Fine Art Experimental Media and Graphic Design, as well as providing space for our planned Master’s degrees in the School of Art & Design.

The long-term plans for the college include completing the previously-announced expansion to four floors at our existing campus in Prague 2 -  opening up to eight new classrooms for the Schools of Business and Computing - while offering enormous growth potential at Bishops Court as well. The college is committed to a two-location presence in Prague as it plans for an expected doubling of its size.

As a result of this expansion, the existing campus will also undergo improvement and development, including provision of

  • new experimental media labs
  • a full library and study area
  • a newly-organized Resources and Technical Support area
  • two new classrooms and additional space for associate lecturers in all schools
  • six additional rooms on the fourth floor of the current building

This is the biggest strategic move since we introduced full university degrees in cooperation with Teesside University in 2008, as it opens the way for development into the next ten years.

Bishop’s Court is a location with a rich tradition in applied and fine arts. It was originally a textile factory, and emerged as a prestigious contemporary art gallery location in the 1990s. The college’s intention is to develop and promote the space for its applied art and fine art heritage as we have options to expand in the building and area. The space currently houses the following art-related activities: an applied arts gallery, a film production company, a fashion design studio, a violin workshop and an occasional concert space.

For a better impression, take a look at these artist's visualizations of the proposed interiors of the new spaces:
