Prague City University (PCU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mgr. Zdeněk Sloboda, Ph.D. as interim Programme Leader for the BA (Hons) Creative Media Production programme at PCU for the upcoming semester.

Zdeněk holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s from Charles University (Journalism and Media Studies) and a Ph.D. in Media and Cultural Studies from Palacky University in Olomouc. He has almost 20 years of experience in media and sociological research (including the Institute of Sociology of the Czech Academy of Sciences) and teaching (at various Czech universities and the University of Leipzig in Germany). Still, he has also worked as a copywriter in an advertising agency and as a film journalist. He has been a puppeteer in one of Prague’s oldest children’s puppet theatres since his teenage years, led a human rights NGO, and is a member of advisory bodies of the Czech governmental commissions on gender equality and human rights.

During his last two years at PCU, he taught theoretical modules on media theory and analysis and has been developing a research strategy for the Creative Media Production programme. In this position Zdeněk provided excellent contributions to the University’s Centre for Research and Interdisciplinary Studies and was one of the main organizers along with Maia Horniak, MA and Maša Hilčišin, Ph.D of the International Academic Conference on Storytelling in Times of Technological Changes and Challenges held at PCU in November 2024. His two decades of experience with (not only) the Czech academic system of teaching and research, as well as orientation in public policy, diversity policy, and NGO leadership, will help anchor further the Creative Media Production programme within the Czech academia, facilitate the upcoming transition (accreditation, registration) and develop the programme mainly in terms of creative and research outcomes.

Please join me in welcoming Zdeněk to this new role. We look forward to the creativity and insight he will bring to this position.
