During the spring semester, PCU and our Industry partners joined forces to deliver an online career development series. It included interactive talks, live discussion panels and online workshops.
The New Horizons edition continues PCU’s commitment to adaptation and forward-thinking by using the Digital Campus to deliver a quality series. It was a pleasure to host the series for the 2nd year. Despite a more modest approach than years past, the sessions were still a great success.
Netflix Security Specialist, Lakshmi Sudheer
One of the highlights was Lakshmi Sudheer, a Senior Security Partner at Netflix and App Security specialist with 10+ years in the tech industry. Lakshmi has presented security research at AppSec USA, RSA, Women Who Code, BTV Defcon, and more. In addition, she is a volunteer for the Program Committee for RSA and leads BSides SF.
Lakshmi discussed the various elements of her work at Netflix and described her role as:
“...trying to understand the tools used for animation, production, preproduction, the whole process. In addition, identifying gaps in security, finding where to invest and the tools that could be built in order to secure the whole ecosystem.”

Lakshmi spoke on Netflix culture and security and career streams. She also talked about certifications and how they may or may not help. She spoke about careers in security, including tips on how to prepare and interview for such positions.
Bug Bounties
Lastly, Lakshmi touched on “bug bounties”. This is a reward programme open to the public for identifying errors or vulnerabilities on a website or within an application. Lakshmi explained how bug bounty involvement can boost a person’s career and experience. One of our Computing graduates, Eusebiu, also shared his own experience identifying bugs.
