Introducing Professor Inna Makarenko

PCU is pleased to welcome Prof. Dr. Inna Makarenko as a Principal Lecturer for the School of Business. Professor Makarenko joined Prague City University in May 2022 and teaches finance-oriented subjects to undergraduate and postgraduate level students. She has multidisciplinary research interests and a background in sustainability accounting, corporate transparency, responsible investment, and financial markets modelling.
Sustainable Research
Professor Makarenko’s investigative interests fit perfectly within the School of Business research aims, teaching and ethos that is driven by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
Her research has explored SDGs 2 and 12 that cover agriculture companies sustainability transparency and global food security, SDG 3 for improvement of national health care systems and post-Covid recovery, as well as SDGs 4 and 8 that focus on educational challenges to ensure decent work and economical growth.
The general context of SDGs and the sustainability research undertaken by Professor Makarenko is to investigate companies' corporate social responsibility, stakeholder engagement and partnerships in various public, finance, and real sectors of the economy, along with the development of corporate and national social responsibility strategies for sustainability.
Additionally, this form of sustainability research addresses overcoming SDG financing gaps, responsible and ESG investment rationale and ways to enhance informational effectiveness of the financial market by modelling its persistence, volatility, and anomalies.
Publications
Professor Makarenko is an author of more than 150 scientific works, including 30 articles in publications indexed in Scopus and WoS databases and 17 intellectual property documents. She also writes for the Journal of Economic Studies (Scopus, WoS), Agriculture and Resource Economics (WoS, Scopus), Problem and Perspectives in Management (Scopus, Q2).
Academic Background and Highlights
Before joining PCU Professor Makarenko was an Associate Professor at Sumy State University, Ukraine and became a full Professor of Accounting and Taxation in 2022 . She has a PhD. in Finance from the Ukrainian Academy of Banking of the National Bank of Ukraine, a Doctoral degree in Accounting and Auditing from Zhytomyr State University, Ukraine. She also holds a Master's Degree in Accounting and Auditing and a Master's degree in High School Pedagogy and an ACCA Diploma IFR Certificate as a professional in international financial reporting standards.
Over the years Professor Makarenko has been the recipient of many awards for her academic publishing, activities and promotion of education, the most recent in 2021 when she was awarded “Young Scientist of the Year” from Laureate of the All-Ukrainian competition.

Professor Makarenko has published several papers in 2022 including her first affiliated article with PCU and a collaborative article with Dr Stefano Cavagnetto & Dr Vaclav Brož from PCU’s School of Business faculty.
