The School of Media & IT uniquely combines technical learning and conceptual creativity – a blend that is reflected in the expertise of our faculty. On the IT side, we have a particular interest in problem-solving, whether in programming or multimedia, while our Media specialists have backgrounds in documentary film-making, writing and journalism.
Veronika is Dean of the School of Media & IT, with research and pedagogical interests in mathematics and its application in IT, as well as adult pedagogy and current trends in teaching delivery. Veronika studied Mathematics and Descriptive Geometry at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, and in 2023 was awarded her Ph.D. at the Department of Logic at the Faculty of Arts at Charles University.
Maia is in charge of the BA (Hons) Creative Media Production programme. She has directed many award-winning short films, a television movie, several documentaries, commercials, and music videos. Her short films have had international success, screening at over thirty esteemed international film festivals including Sydney, Palm Springs, Milan, Brooklyn, Brussels, Edmonton, Flickerfest and Cannes.
Gramoz teaches Mathematics for Computing and Programming Fundamentals along with administrative responsibilities for the Bachelor's Computing programme. Originally from Kosovo, he has a multidisciplinary background which includes a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, a triple Master's degree in Physics and Applications, Biotechnology and Chemistry from École Normale Supérieure de Cachan in France and Molecular Nano and Biophotonics for telecommunications and biotechnologies at Wroclaw University of Science and Technology. He holds a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Technical University of Liberec.
Pascal has a degree in Cinema from the University of Sorbonne III, as well as DNAP (National Art Degree) and DNSAP (National Superior Art Degree) from the Academy of Art in Aix-en-Provence.
Yelena's interests are computer networking, relational and NoSQL databases and her professional experience includes working as a software engineer and a technical support specialist for international IT corporations. She has also taught since 2019 and is a member of the FITNet research group on CTU, which explores theoretical concepts, architecture and computer network technologies.

Prof. Dr. Mohamed Bettaz, CSc is the Programme Leader for BSc (Hons) Computing.
He holds both MSc and PhD degrees from the Czech Technical University in Prague (Computer Science & Engineering Dept.).
He is an honorary professor at Amity Institute of Information Technology, India, since 2017.
He has a long-life working experience with various education systems at public as well as at and private universities.
Before moving to Prague City University, he was a holding a professorship position at the Faculty of Information Technology at Philadelphia University Jordan.
His research interests include subjects from software engineering and formal methods. He is a member of the well-known IFIP WG 1.3 (Foundations of System Specification).

Programme Leader
Dr Masa Hilcisin is a filmmaker, producer, lecturer and scholar, who has worked at Prague City University since 2009. She holds a BA in Comparative Literature, an MA in European Studies, and a PhD from Masaryk University.
Her professional background includes work for media, cultural and human rights organizations in the region of former Yugoslavia where her interests were centred around human rights activism, cultural activism, media research and media formation within the context of nationalism.
For over a decade, Masa has been committed to making films on social issues and different aspects of violation of human rights. Her documentary films have been screened at various film festivals around the world including the Berlinale, the International LGBTI Film Festival in Mumbai, Frameline in San Francisco, MIX in NYC, and the International Women’s Film Festival in Dortmund|Cologne.
She has participated in a number of key projects at Prague City University, including Underground City XXI, Amnesty International workshops, and events organized by the Centre for Research and Interdisciplinary Studies.
As well as her work for Prague City University, Masa teaches documentary film production and film directing at Prague Film School, and is Czech Ambassador for the European Women’s Audiovisual Network. She collaborates with the One World International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival as a member of the pre-selection team and collaborates as a producer with independent documentary film production company Bohemian Productions on feature documentary films.
In 2014, Masa gained her PhD from Masaryk University's Department of Film Studies and Audio-Visual Culture with a thesis on the subject of authenticity in representation in the observational documentary film of Helena Třeštíková.
Masa has been involved in many cultural and artistic projects including film festival curating, and various women artists support initiatives.

Doc. Mgr. et Mgr. Radek Honzík, Ph.D. is Programme Leader for MSc Computing.
He holds Master’s degrees in Mathematics and English Language, and Logic and Computational Linguistics, as well as a Ph.D. from the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University, where he also successfully defended his habilitation work (Doc.) in 2019.
For three years he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Kurt Gödel Research Center for Mathematical Logic in Vienna. His research has been published in distinguished international journals including Annals of Pure and Applied Logic, and the Israel Journal of Mathematics. He is co-author of the monograph The Hyperuniverse Project and Maximality (Springer 2018).

Maia is in charge of the BA (Hons) Creative Media Production programme.
Maia Horniak is an internationally acclaimed director in film/TV and documentaries, with over 15 years of professional industry experience.
Maia was born in Paris to Czechoslovakian artists who later migrated to Australia. She was one of the youngest filmmakers to be accepted into the world’s most reputable film schools - FAMU, here in Prague - and later completed degrees in Fine Arts and Media Arts at Sydney's University of New South Wales and Copenhagen's Royal Art Academy.
After working as an executive assistant to producers and directors on Universal and Miramax multi-million dollar feature productions in Prague and Los Angeles, Maia went on to complete a MA in film directing at the renowned Australian film, television & radio school (AFTRS) in 2006, where she was awarded the Gilbert & Tobin Award for 'Most Significant & Promising Body of Work'.
Maia has worked with a number of renowned film production studios and companies, including Stillking (Prague) and Universal, Miramax and MTV (US), and with people such as producer Charles Roven, director Terry Gilliam, and the actors Heath Ledger, Matt Damon, Hugh Jackman.
She is a passionate and inspirational teacher, with many years' experience teaching and designing courses in video, media, directing and performance.

Maia is also a highly skilled editor and camera operator, and she has just completed directing, shooting and editing a documentary series "8 Million Steps" around Spain in co-operation with Slow Food International. Maia's first feature film, a romantic comedy "Wake With Me" is currently in the early stages of financing and casting.

David Petryca, MA is responsible for the BSc (Hons) Computing Blended Learning programme and has been teaching web design and development classes at PCU since 2004.
A qualified Graphic Designer with over fifteen years of experience in the advertising and media industry in Australia, he also has an MA in Future Design.
David’s interest lies in the design and coding of full stack web application using tools like Vue and Express.js. David is also interested in exploring future directions and possibilities of user interface design.

Christophe teaches in the School of Art & Design and School of Media & IT, specializing in several modules related to audio-visual techniques, and video post-production and editing.
He attended the Fine Art Academy of Marseille, from where he graduated in 2005 with a Masters degree and the congratulations of the jury. After the creation of a number of films, video installations and participation in exhibitions, the French electronic artist Dominik Barbier offered Christophe the chance to work with him in his professional editing studio, Fearless, in Marseille. His role was as editor and artistic adviser.
He has been working in Prague since April 2006 with CIANT (Center for International Arts and New Technologies), as a cameraman and video editor.

Bohus Ziskal, PhD. has over ten years' teaching experience and as a guest lecturer has taught at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the Czech Technical University (ČVUT) and at the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU) in Prague. He spent four years as assistant professor at Charles University in the Institute of Information Studies and Librarianship, where he helped to found a new specialization: “New Media Studies”.
Bohus has a Master’s degree in Technical Cybernetics from the Faculty of Electrotechnical Engineering at the Czech Technical University, and holds a PhD in Information Science from Charles University's Faculty of Philosophy. He spent over eight years working for TV and film productions in both a creative and technical capacity, including positions as postproduction technician, graphics designer, SFX supervisor and Head of the Graphics Department. After several years in the non-profit sector (oriented towards the intersection of new technologies and art), Bohus has joined Visual Unity (formerly Visual Connection), the Czech leading system integrator in the field of professional digital multimedia. Since 2012 he has worked as an independent project manager and graphic designer, and writes articles for technical magazines.
A 'renaissance man', Bohus has been involved in many artistic and technological projects including design for CD and LP covers, music videos and web pages; in the role of VJ he has collaborated with contemporary classical music ensembles, and he is also interested in poetry and neuroscience.

Dagmar Bláhová is an internationally regarded actress who was born in Czechoslovakia and has a Master of Arts degree from DAMU.
Dagmar has performed in over 50 films and TV series, and is most well known for her lead role in the 70s cult film by Vera Chytilova 'The Apple Game' with Jiri Menzel, as well the film 'Calamity', and for her role in the most popular Australian TV series 'Neighbours'.
She has worked with some of the best Czech directors in history. An actress with a strong comedic talent, she acts and also directs for theatre, film, and television. She has performed in various theatres (eg, Semafor Theatre or Studio Ypsilon) and was also a permanent member of the Goose on a String Theatre, where, with Bolek Polívka, she played in Am a Ea, a legendary theatre production in Czech culture.
After experience acting and directing in Germany and France, she emigrated to Australia. There she continued her career as an actress, director and producer. She wrote and directed in the Opera House as well as other theatres, and since returning to the Czech Republic she teaches Acting Studio at FAMU. She founded the theatre company Intimni Divadlo.

Robert Carrithers combines English language teaching skills with his creative talents and personal experience of the creative scenes in New York, Berlin and Prague, through writing, film and photography.
Originally from Chicago, he has been initimately involved in underground music, art and club scenes going all the way back to New York in the early 1980s. He was a freelance photographer covering cultural events for various magazines and newspapers in New York, London and Paris.
In October 2017, his photographs formed part of a major group exhibition at the New York Museum of Modern Art, entitled 'Club 57: Film, Performance and Art in the East Village 1978 – 1983'
His book 'City Primeval New York Berlin Prague' was published in September 2017. A tale of three cities, the book shows how New York, Berlin and Prague influenced a number of artists and how they each influenced these cities.
In 2018 Robert's second book was published by the Berlin publisher Pogo Books. It is called 'The Downtown Luminaries', and consists of his 1980s New York photographs.

David Friday is a Prague-based writer and teacher. He hails from northern Ontario and holds a B.Sc. from University of Toronto and an MBA from Queen's University.
Before coming to Prague he lived in Ottawa where he worked as a lecturer and researcher at Kemptville College.
In his spare time he worked as a newsletter editor for the Ottawa School of Art and later worked with the Canadian Cancer Society to deliver and improve legibility of public educational materials.
David has lived in Prague for over a decade. He began his journalism career when paper was still in fashion, contributing regularly to Prague-based publications including the The Prague Post, The Prague Tribune, and Lifestyles. He also contributed to Fodors Travel Guides and Eurobuild and continues to write for international and specialist media such Building World and Mergermarket.
David has continued to teach English throughout his time in Prague. He credits the city with awakening his interest in architecture and an interest he never knew he had in history. He often finds himself writing about the former, particularly the interaction between modern and historical.

Nicole Goode is a Canadian Director, Cinematographer, and Colourist currently based in Prague, Czech Republic.
She studied at OCAD University in Toronto and completed her BFA in Drawing and Painting. Her latest short film “Supine” which she wrote and directed premiered at Bucheon, won the Melies D’Argent at Hardline film festival and competed at Sitges for the Melies d’or. She is currently developing various projects such as a feature film, an international documentary, and an experimental video album for a Canadian music group.

Cynthia is a versatile and diverse filmmaker with a multi-media portfolio spanning film, commercials, writing, and photography. She has produced and directed numerous projects around the world, including 12 feature film/episodic series and over 30 commercials and branded marketing campaigns.
She earned her MFA in Producing from the American Film Institute in Los Angeles, CA and a BS in English from Augsburg University in Minneapolis, MN. While at the AFI, Cynthia interned for Wolfgang Petersen at Radiant Productions. She then went on to work in the Creative Development and Theatrical Clearances offices at Warner Bros. Studios.
In her spare time, Cynthia is a prolific traveler, baker, and voracious reader of crime novels.

Basil an Associate Lecturer for the Creative Media Production programme and is a professional composer and sound designer in film, media and performing arts. He has worked on diverse projects at all scales, from apps to stadium events.
He is known for unique sound, an 'inventive crossing of musical genres set in evocative sonic atmospheres'. Basil is originally from an architecture and music background, then trained in film, combining creativity and passion for story-telling with working to a brief and managing projects to a high professional standard. He has a high level of knowledge and skill in audio production, mixing, technology and software, and is always keen to learn new technologies to express emotion and character through sound and music. He especially enjoys helping to develop a dramatic vision from conception to completion

Gabriel Paletz, PhD. is a lecturer for the Creative Media Production programme and teaches Storytelling for emerging platforms.
He is an experienced film scholar, programmer, critic, consultant, writer and teacher and earned the first PhD in film history with a minor in film production from the University of Southern California.
While mentoring screenwriting students across five continents, he has published film criticism in Variety, curated a retrospective with nine Eastern European Film archives. With zest for work across the arts, he has just finished a book that gives a new coherence to and appreciation of the career of the great 20th artist of multi-media career of Orson Welles.

Azadeh Mohammadi Kangarani is a TV line producer and director, as well as a freelance theatre director, actress, and producer.
She was born in 1979 in Tehran/Iran and studied dramaturgy at Soore University in Tehran.
Azadeh developed her skills in acting at Prague Film School and later attended the Master's programme of Theatre Directing at DAMU (Drama Faculty of Prague). In the last year of her studies she worked with Erasmus students on theatrical productions. Since 2016 she started to work on multimedia productions, the latest of which, 'To Somewhere Else', toured around the Czech Republic.
Currently Azadeh is doing her PhD in Theatre Studies at Charles University in Prague.

Alexandru Mihnea Moucha, PhD. has vast experience in the areas in which he teaches: computer networks (LAN, MAN, WAN, WLAN, modern internet technologies, routing and switching, security, design and architecture, audit, communication protocols and their design).
Alexandru earned his doctorate at the Czech Technical University, where he currently acts as an assistant professor. His PhD thesis was in the area of wireless networks and sensor arrays. His research areas include communication protocols, routing and switching, interference, radio wave propagation and antennas. He also holds MSc in Computer Science and BSc of Engineering in Computer Science from the University Politehnica of Bucharest.
His hobbies include aviation (he holds a pilot's license), astronomy, astrophysics and cosmology, physics, mathematics and any science which can be put into letters and numbers (exact sciences).

Graeme Murray is a Prague based brand consultant and marketing lecturer.
Originally from London, he holds a BA (Honours) in European Business Administration from the University of Wolverhampton in the UK / Inholland University in the Netherlands. He is also a holder of the Chartered Institute of Marketing Diploma.
Graeme has amassed 26 years of experience in the worlds of marketing communications and branding working at agencies such as Leo Burnett, Ogilvy, Bates, etc on global, regional and local brands. He has worked in advertising and marketing around the world, from London to Amsterdam, Hong Kong, Thailand and Prague.
He is currently teaching for the Creative Media Production programme at PCU, convincing his students that the world of marketing is much more than just digital marketing.

Dominic Pantucek graduated with first class honours in Applied Informatics before coming to study for his Master's in Computing at Prague City University. Having been awarded his diploma with distinction, he has now returned to teach in the Computing programme.
With almost 20 years' experience in cryptography and information security, Dominik is always keen to lecture on any topic within his areas of interest, especially the mathematical foundations of cryptography, music composition, and musical performance.
In addition to his university teaching, Dominik is the founder and CEO of Trustica, a company which provides information security consultancy as well as related specialized software.
He has given presentations on aspects of cryptography and cryptography programming at numerous conferences; and when time permits, still finds opportunities to indulge his passion for golf, caving and the ukelele.

Eva Papouskova is an author of screenplays, books and playscripts, whose wide experience of the creative industry extends from writing highly-praised books for children in Czech, to collaborating with (among others) Oscar-winning director Malcolm Clarke.
She graduated from the screenwriting department at FAMU and has written more than 120 hours for prime-time TV, as well as one feature, and a number of documentaries and animations.
Currently Eva is focused on teaching screenwriting in English, and is an associate lecturer in the PCU Creative Media Production programme.

Patrick graduated from MSc Computing at PCU in 2014 and since 2015 he has taught Computer Systems. His main focus is on system security, open-source systems, computer ethics, Internet and privacy issues.
A speaker of German, French, Russian, Czech and English, Patrick's practical skills range from basic business knowledge to project management and business ownership. Prominent in all these areas is his expertise in marketing, web design, and business-related computer systems.
He likes to focus on mainstream alternatives and open-source systems as a way of combatting the monopoly of big computer corporations, and supporting the computer user's right to privacy.

Petr Svarny was born in Prague. He currently works as a product manager at a Czech IT company, which enables him to do what he most likes: teaching others what he has learnt from experience.
He holds an MSc in Cognitive Informatics and Diplomacy from the Faculty of Informatics and Statistics, University of Economics in Prague, as well as an MA in Logic from the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy at Charles University.
Petr gained his teaching experience while studying for his PhD at Charles University in Prague. Although his subject is logic, his research also ventures into physics and philosophy.
His hobbies - board-gaming and ballet - might be far removed from the topics of his classes, but still provide him with inspiration on how to enhance his teaching.

David Vaughan is a writer, broadcaster, journalist and university lecturer, who teaches in the BA (Hons) Communications and Media Studies programme at Prague City University.
He is author of “Battle for the Airwaves” (2008) on the role of the media in the run-up to WWII, and of the documentary novel 'Slyšte můj hlas' (2014), which won the Czech Book Prize readers’ award in 2015. The English edition, 'Hear My Voice', was published in 2018.
For eight years he was editor-in-chief of Radio Prague, the international service of Czech Radio, and previously he was the Prague correspondent of the BBC, travelling widely in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Ukraine.
David has won national and international awards for his work in radio journalism. He studied Modern Languages at Balliol College, Oxford.

Ahmet is from Izmir, Turkey. As well as teaching for the Media & IT faculty at Prague City University, Ahmet works as a Global Integration Lead for a large international corporation.
He leads global integration projects world-wide as well as manages teams to deliver different types of services to clients. He holds a Bachelor of Education from Dumlupinar University in Kutahya.
Ahmet has gained much experience while working for companies like Sun Microsystems, Accenture, KPMG and Adecco and has completed over 40 large size (+3 mil $) and over 80 mid-size projects in last 13 years of his career. Ahmet holds certifications in PMP, Prince 2, ITIL, DevOps and many more.
He has held many trainings and workshops around Project Management, Agile development and Strategy management.
