Graduate Exhibitions 2021

Over the months of May and June, graduates from six programmes presented their work across four exhibitions and one cinema evening. Each exhibition was themed, curated and marketed by student teams who were responsible for selecting modes of delivery, promotional graphics, teaser trailers, budgets, and devising publicity campaigns.

Below are the exhibition details, web links and photo galleries.

MA Fine Art & MA Future Design
Metanoia
Letters from the Future
17 - 20 June 2021

After two years of intensive work the exhibition was the culmination for final year Master’s students of Fine Art and Future Design. The graduates collaborated and shared ideas to unite and present an impressive interdisciplinary show in the Postgraduate Art Studio exhibition spaces of Pragovka. The official exhibition opening was on the 17 June for graduating students and their guests, the exhibition was then open to the public from Friday 18 until Sunday 20 June. You can walk through the exhibition here, and view images from the opening here.

Metanoia:
A transformative journey of patterns, disassembling routines and mapping networks. Contemplating the systems that regulate our realities - is it time to embrace the machine? We evoke ambiguity, irony and beauty as an antidote to the one and only truth and as a medicine for the multiple, diverse and many.

Letters from the Future:
From smart homes to virtual meetings, to digital alter egos, to the interconnectedness of ecosystems. Our designs attempt to understand, improve, solve, and inspire. We explore and shape what lies ahead of us, and we invite you to come along for the ride.

BA (Hons) Fine Art Experimental Media
Reflection in a pond
3 - 6 June 2021

On Thursday 3 June, sixteen final year Fine Art Experimental Media students opened their exhibition 'Reflection in a pond' over two floors at the Bishop's Court Campus in Prague 1. They also launched a printed catalogue to further showcase their art.

Turning inwards at times when the outside is disconnected. We, as artists, are finding connections in times of crisis. Focussing on ourselves and our practice, within the boundaries of an uncertain outside.

Resembling Narcissus finding his reflection in a steady pond, we too now see the self. Taking photos of ourselves, asking questions about our own perceptions, our own clarity of mind. We take a closer look to converse with ourselves, in an effort to expose a new stage of clarity and resolvedness.

Ultimately everything becomes the subject of self-reflection. The self —as a catalyst for exploration, development and creation— now becomes a steady agent and driver in our worlds. A world that is ever changing, developing and growing.

Our work exists within a context of multiple, overlapping, and intersecting narratives, where there is an undeniable sense of urgency in our creation, our consumption, our conversation. On these still waters, we find our reflection. But disturbing the surface now allows us to refract the perspective and find new directions.

Visitors also got to take part in a participatory performance!

Anthony Tsang's participatory performance encouraged visitors to choose things that they didn't need from a range of objects that he had collected. We buy things all the time, and most of our choice is not because you absolutely need it, but because you like it or you are attracted to it. But how do you know the things you are attracted to actually suits you?

You can see the exhibition opening photographs here and also check out the livestream walk through of the exhibition.

BA (Hons) Creative Media Production
Coming out of the Cave: Film Screening at Bio Oko
9 June 2021

On Wednesday 9 June, final year Creative Media Production students created the FIRST PCU Cinema Night in the history of lockdown.

The audience experienced exciting projects covering drama, horror and documentary films, as well as a podcast series. All work reflected important issues in today’s world. 🌎

You can find photos from the evening here as well as the opening speeches and full student screenings here. Below is a highlights trailer from the event.

Debuting our short films and podcast series is not the only thing that makes this evening particularly special. We have shaped and worked on our projects for a whole year while facing the difficulties of being confined in our apartments. This experience is analogous to Plato’s famous cave thought experiment. For a year and a half, our learning experience was limited to online through our devices without human contact, as mere shadows on the wall. Many of us had to cover multiple roles of the production process and do the entire project on our own as we learnt new things about ourselves that we didn’t even know. This event will reflect on us breaking the chain, coming out of our dark caves into the sunlight for the first time to come together, have become anew intellectually, and celebrate the fruition of a long and challenging period.

Foundation Diploma in Art, Design & Media Practice
Utopia
11 June 2021

Students in the Foundation programme had their final exhibition online, and gave a livestream presentation of their work that you can view here.

You can also see photographs from the livestream presentation that took place at our Polska Campus here.

Utopia. A perfect world, a perfect society. Is it possible to ever create such a thing?

But maybe that’s what being an artist is about - taking something impossible and making it a reality, at least in our minds, hearts, and canvases.

We students at Foundation Diploma in Art, Design, and Media Practice tasked ourselves with trying. Each of us chose a topic connected to social responsibility, and challenged our minds and imagination while trying to come up with a solution. Our projects show one (or more) problems that our society faces every day, but this time with a happy ending. Or, at least, a happy start (if happy endings aren’t your thing😄). Something that all of us can do to get closer to that Utopia, step by step. And we sincerely hope that we will inspire you to start creating our utopias with us! ❤️
