Professional Development Seminar for Lecturers

by admin, on 05 September 2012 12:38:55 CEST

Prague College recently held professional development workshops for Prague College lecturers led by Dr. Rachel Forsyth, Principal Lecturer for Curriculum Development and Innovation, Centre for Learning and Teaching at Manchester Metropolitan University, and Dr. Liz Marr, Director of the Centre for Inclusion and Curriculum at the Open University.

Liz Marr and Rachel Forsyth's workshop was based on their book 'Identity Crisis: Working in Higher Education in the 21st century', which provides excellent learning material for lecturers who want to know how to prepare lectures and deliver them effectively. The workshop consisted of three training areas in which the lecturers could take part:

Workshop 1: Getting involved with research

If you've come to Higher Education directly from another profession, you may wonder about the value of getting involved with research and scholarship and the relationship it may have with your teaching, as well as how to get started. This short session aims to motivate and encourage you to take some first steps in research at Prague College and give you some tips on developing your research skills and networks.

Workshop 2: Getting published

Once you've undertaken some research, you need to  share it with others. This session will take you through the basic steps and show you what reviewers are looking for.

Workshop 3: Marking and feedback

This session recaps some basic research about marking and feedback and gets you to use it to design clear, effective assignment briefs for students. Even experienced markers will find something new to do as a result!
